IN MARINA RUBICÓN, 100 DAYS UNTIL THE ADVENTURE BEGINS…

07-21-2011

Time flies! Ok, well that's nothing new, but it certainly is true. It may come as a surprise, but it was two months yesterday since Team Telefónica arrived at Marina Rubicón in Lanzarote, Spain.

There's no doubt that we are in one of the best possible places we can, due to the people, their generosity and the optimum sailing conditions for training. Neal McDonald, our Watch Captain says so in today's log “this is a tremendous place to be testing out our brand new brilliant blue machine.

Today the clock counting down the days until the first regatta which will kick off the Volvo Ocean Race on the 29th October, shows a round number: 100.

"You always think about all of the things left to check, to finish off... but in 100 days we'll be starting in Alicante, come what may," our Skipper, Iker Martínez reminds us in today's Spanish log

Before hitting Alicante we'll be passing through one of our other bases, the one at Sanxenxo (Pontevedra, Northern Spain), where we've spent so much time in the past and which, like Marina Rubicón, is a fantastic base.

The 100 days will count down fast with the inevitable speedy passage of time. Before we know it we'll be facing the start of another challenging competition and thrilling adventure, which will take us around the world in ten countries across five continents.

We know that the days will fly by, as they have done in Alicante. As Iker says: "between measuring, press commitments and other events, before we know it we will be at the eve of the inshore racing, where we'll be playing for those first precious regatta points."

"Although what counts is how you finish and not how you start, it wouldn't be too bad to start as we did in the last edition...".

 Let's hope so Mr. Skipper!
