Zane is one of the under-thirty crew-members on “Telefónica”. Born in St Helens on the Australian island of Tasmania, this is his first Volvo Ocean Race.
He began sailing very young and chose to dedicate himself to the sport very early on. Among the regattas he has raced in is the always challenging Sydney-Hobart, which he has competed in four times; the Middle Sea Race, held each year in Malta, where he sailed with a team including sailors of the calibre of Brad Jackson (three time winner of the Volvo Ocean Race) and Jules Salter (winner of the last Volvo Ocean Race); and the Fastnet Race, an institution in world offshore racing since 1925, in which Zane managed to break the standing eight-year Monohull record for the regatta on the Super Maxi 100 footer “ICAP Leopard”, in 2007.
Laid back, but at the same time competitive, Zane's incorporation into the Team Telefónica is a further step in his sailing career.
