It's very hard to sum up Briton Neal McDonald's career in just a few lines. He's been sailing since the age of six, and his life has always been closely bound with the sea and the ocean.
His experience is of the highest level, and Neal McDonald brings a track record brimming with successes to "Telefónica". His sporting career is impressive, and there are not many sailors in the world who can say that they have engraved their mark on history in some of the world's most important offshore regattas, such as the Sydney-Hobart, the Fastnet Race, the Newport Bermuda Race, the Middle Sea Race or the Gotland Round.
His career also boasts Olympic Games, with a Diploma at the Seoul '88 games, and America's Cup entries in 1995 and 2007. He has yet to win a Volvo Ocean Race. With four round the world regattas under his belt, the first in 1997 and the last in 2008, his best result to date was second place with “Assa Abloy” in the 2001 edition.
Beyond all of this, what hits one most about Neal McDonald is his modesty, his enthusiasm for working in a team and the confidence he has placed in Team Telefónica; a project which McDonald himself says impressed him from the very start.
