Jordi Calafat doesn't do things by halves. The Spaniard has no qualms about revealing his aspirations for this Volvo Ocean Race, the second for him as well as the second with the Spanish team: "We have a unique opportunity ahead of us and I hope to win, or to at least come close... it wouldn't be down to a lack of hard work or desire!".
On a personal level he is very proud of his four children and professionally he is considered one of the best sailors, both in Spain and in an international sailing arena.
Calafat started off in the sport of sailing when he was very young, becoming Optimist World Champion in 1983. His passage into Olympic sailing produced some great triumphs for Spanish sport, with Olympic Gold a highlight at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, as well as two World titles in the same class.
His career also boasts another sporting great: the America's Cup, with which Calafat tasted victory in 2007 with Swiss team "Alinghi", taking the 32nd edition of the sailing competition.
A many of many challenges, Calafat made his début on "Telefónica Blue" in the previous edition of the Volvo Ocean Race. At 43 years old he is back to take on one of sailing's toughest challenges on board “Telefónica”.
